Mac PokerSince the beginning of online poker Macs have been relatively ignored. At first it
makes sense, the amount of PC users greatly outnumber Mac users. But after
looking into it further, Mac users may have a much greater conversion ratio and
there's other reasons to release Mac software as well.
There's hundreds of online poker rooms now, and less then 10 that offer Mac
compatible poker software. They don’t develop Mac poker software because they
feel it’s not worth it. Judging by statistics only about 5% of computer users own
Macs. But realistically, this doesn’t mean the amount of Mac to PC users playing
online poker would be 1/20th.
Many of the PC users are from businesses, corporations, and people who just use
their computers for email and Microsoft word. Macs target the younger college age
generations who are up to date with the latest technology. They’re using Macs for
Music, video, graphics, and other creative activities. The younger generation also
happens to be the market that windows users are targeting, and because of this the
conversion ratio for Mac users would be much greater then PC users.
When developing software for PC’s you have to worry about plugging all possible
leaks for viruses, worms, and other hacks. There are so many security issues for PC
computers that it’s an endless process. You also have to hire extra customer
support to deal with the problems users will have with PC poker software.
If you develop software correctly for Mac’s it should just work. Apple makes OS X
and it’s the only operating system it will run on. Macs don’t get viruses or spy ware
and they’re not prone to having any major security leaks. After developing the poker
software it would be a lot cheaper to maintain.
There are a lot more reasons for poker sites to develop Mac poker rooms then not.
The few rooms that have Mac poker software, like Full Tilt Poker and PokerRoom,
have shown an increase in growth. For a poker room to Recognize and diversify
them self to all of their possible customers will show that they’re a respectable
company.
